Envelope in which the letters N6/1 - N6/14, Eugene O'Curry, were contained. Notes on the envelope refer to dates, senders and recipients of some of the letters. Another note reads ‘(The history of these letters is unknown: they were not part of Fr Delaney’s papers). Found loose in strong room April 1944. Seem to belong to Leeson Street.’.

Letter from Patrick McLoughlin, St John's, Carrigart, County Donegal to Fr Roland Burke Savage SJ concerning the papers of Dr Charles Russell held in Maynooth College and those in Leeson Street. Remarks 'My recollection is that those you had at 35 Lr. Leeson Street were a disappointing lot.'

Letter to Fr Fergal McGrath SJ (Irish Province Archivist 1975 to 1986) from Fr Anthony Bischoff SJ (Jesuit Community, Georgetown University, Washington), concerning books used by or belonging to Fr Gerard Hopkins SJ, found in St Ignatius’ House of Writers, 35 Lower Leeson Street. ‘I confess I am appalled at the idea that these books have been carelessly assimilated into the house library. In 1947, I spent hours examining every book in the Leeson Street house Library. The result was that I segregated some fifteen or twenty books that had definitely belonged to or been used by Hopkins. All of these I turned over to Father Aubrey Gwynn, then librarian. I made clear to him what the books were, their value as having been associated with Hopkins, and suggested that they be kept as a separate collection. I do not have a detailed listing of the books…I have only two definite titles that I recall…There are also several books by Richard Watson Dixon that belonged to Hopkins…You ought to also have the autograph manuscript of Hopkins’s poem ‘St. Thecla’, as well as manuscripts of one or two of his letters.’

File containing extensive documentation concerning the will of Charles Kennedy and his bequest to the Society of Jesus. The Society used the proceeds from this bequest to construct University Hall, Hatch Street. The extent of the file can be explained by the numerous properties owned by Charles Kennedy and the necessary documentation that inevitably accompanies ownership of property, receipts and vouchers from professional companies involved in the construction of University Hall and the fact that the will of Charles Kennedy was contested by his brother Frank Kennedy. His legal action was unsuccessful (29 January 1909 & 30 January 1909 & 30 May 1912, 3 items).

A memorandum written by Fr Peter M Troddyn SJ outlining the history of University College, Dublin, University Hall and 35 Lower Leeson Street, detailing origins and connection with the Jesuit Fathers. Refers also to the proposal to open University Hall to other third-level students. Remarks ‘...the hall should continue to operate as it has done for so long...I query if the sixtieth year of our present building...and what I consider the centenary year of the Irish Jesuits’ occupation with one continuing body of students is an appropriate year to make so radical a change as is proposed.’.

A file containing remarks by various members of the Irish Province on the proposed booklet to aid Scholastics about to begin their Magisterium.

In 1883 the trustees of the Catholic University leased to the Society of Jesus the University buildings of 84, 85 and 86 St. Stephen’s Green which were given the new name of University College, Dublin. In 1908 the National University of Ireland came into existence and with that, the Jesuit community left St. Stephen’s Green for a new residence at Lower Leeson Street in 1909/10. Known as St Ignatius House of Writers since 1952, previously the house saw itself as a Collegiun Inchoatum, a burgeoning college of the National University. Many of the Jesuits who lived in the house taught at University College Dublin.

The Jesuit journal 'Studies: An Irish Quarterly Review', 'the devotional magazine 'The Sacred Heart Messenger' and the Irish language equivalent, 'An Timire', are published from Lower Leeson Street.

University Hall, also known as Hatch Hall, was a student hall of residence at Lower Hatch Street, Dublin. Founded by the Jesuits in 1913, for third level male students studying in Dublin, it was under the administration of the Superior of 35 Lower Leeson Street until 1975. It closed in 2004.

The Irish Jesuit Archives has been located at Lower Leeson Street since 1958 when it moved from Upper Gardiner Street.

The papers of St Ignatius House of Writers, Lower Leeson Street deal with the interior and exterior of the buildings, renovations, deeds, domestic and Jesuit community matters and finance. For University Hall, the material relates to bequests, property issues, stained glass, examinations and accounts. There is a small amount of material on Studies, the Sacred Heart Messenger and An Timire. The material is mainly in the form of letters, ledgers, architectural plans, maps and photographs.

File relating to the admission of Richard Brenan to the Society of Jesus and subsequent professional life including correspondence relating to retreat work and from a sabbatical year at the École S. Louis de Gonzague, 12 rue Franklin, 75016, Paris. Includes a relic of St Francis Xavier, inherited by Fr Richard brenan SJ (1979).

A file relating to the question of establishing a tribunal of appeals (in cases of dismissal) for lay teachers in Catholic secondary schools.
