This list represents the correspondence of Irish Provincials from 1856 to 1905. It is a precursor to ADMN/3 'Provincial's Correspondence, 1905 - 1959'. The correspondence dated 1856 - 1905 was deposited in the archives after ADMN/3 had been completed, hence the reason why there are two different collections. The contents of this collection were deposited along with other 'Administration' files. It is not known how these files were compiled but after examining the files it is clear that they are not organic and appear to have been broken down and loosely arranged according to an unknown system.

This collection is arranged according to the different Irish Provincials in date order. All, except for the correspondence of Fr Lentaigne, SJ, have been indexed. It was decided therefore to put the letters in date order and to attach the index to each group of letters.
