Refers to her life and her husband's life in England ‘It is almost impossible for anyone to whom God has not given it to suffer to know what it is for two militant and convinced Catholics to live in...England. But his love and companionship and the security of the Faith constitute an unmerited reward.’ Remarks that she has decided to visit France (from where this letter is written) with her children despite flooding in the area.

Letter from Máire Ní Bhriain (Máire O'Brien), 43 Mespil Road, Dublin to Fr Edward Cahill SJ concerning the resignation of her post in Madrid after the signing of the Treaty and '...on receiving Gavan Duffy's "Free State" instructions - the carrying out of which would have been entirely against my principles.' Remarks that she was then offered a job on '...Fine Ghaedheal by my former "boss"...Bob Brennan and we are working together very harmoniously linking up the Irish race. Our Free State friends are...trying to smash us as they would smash the Republic and every Irish institution but we are going come out on top in spite of them.
